Packing for a fishing trip in Cabo sounds simple—swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses, done, right?
Not quite.
If you want to be comfortable, prepared, and not that person borrowing someone else’s Dramamine mid-trip, this is your go-to list. We’ve been running charters long enough to know what guests are always happy they brought—and what they definitely wish they had left back at the hotel.
Bring This:
- 1. Lightweight, long-sleeve sun shirt
The Cabo sun doesn’t mess around. A breathable fishing shirt protects you better than SPF alone—and keeps you cool while you’re reeling in. - 2. Polarized sunglasses
They cut glare on the water and help you spot fish beneath the surface. Plus, you’ll look the part. Bonus points for a neck strap so you don’t lose them mid-fight. - 3. Hat with a brim
Baseball caps are fine, but a wide-brim hat offers better sun protection—especially on full-day trips. - 4. Sunscreen (reef-safe)
Go for SPF 50+ and reapply often. Reef-safe keeps our oceans happy, too. - 5. Non-slip sandals or deck shoes
Boat decks can get wet and slippery. Flip-flops can work, but something with traction is even better. - 6. Motion sickness meds (just in case)
Even if you think you have a strong stomach, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Take one the night before and one the morning of if you’re unsure. - 7. Small backpack or dry bag
Keeps your stuff organized and protected. Bonus: easier to haul back your new Mar Vida T-shirt.
Leave This:
- Nice shoes – You’ll regret getting them wet.
- Heavy jackets – Mornings can be cool, but a hoodie is plenty.
- Jeans – Trust us, saltwater and denim are not friends.
- Your own fishing gear – We’ve got you covered with top-tier rods, reels, and tackle.
Pro Tip: Want to be extra? Bring your own GoPro or waterproof phone pouch. The footage you get fighting a marlin or gaffing your first mahi is priceless
